Dunwoody, GA Real Time Crime Center – At-a-Glance
Agency & Purpose
Opened August 2024 in Dunwoody, GA with a population of approximately 52,000 residents. This Real Time Crime center operated by the Dunwoody Police Department provides a centralized, real-time hub for monitoring incidents, supporting officers, and reducing crime.
Core Technology Stack
Flock Safety public safety operating system integrating various sources of data, including license plate recognition (LPR) cameras, gunshot detection systems, police body cameras, call geolocation, and third-party surveillance footage. These tools support police by helping to rapidly identify suspect vehicles, generate investigative leads, and support in-progress calls.
Facility & Room Design
Multi-Person Room – 2 Real Time Analyst positions with officer/overflow positions, a podium for briefings and major incidents and a video display wall. Fountainhead Control Rooms designed and furnished the purpose-built Dunwoody Real Time Crime Center, providing the control room layout, custom operator consoles, raised floor, and finishes. Originally, the space was a classroom-style roll call room with rows of tables and chairs. It was transformed with an analyst console, integrated podium, and full-width video wall providing a single operational picture for active incidents and briefings. The new layout improves sightlines, ergonomics, and collaboration while preserving the room’s roll call function.
Operations & Use Cases
Analysts pull live camera views and LPR hits around active calls, relay actionable intel to officers, and support major events and higher-risk incidents from the RTCC. RTCC also supports post-incident investigations using historical LPR and video data to track vehicles, timelines, and patterns. Governance & Community Strong emphasis on policy, training, and transparency around LPR, video, and emerging tools (e.g., drones), with community-facing information provided through the Flock platform.
The below video walks through the design decisions, technology choices, and operational lessons learned from the Dunwoody project – insights applicable to any city or police department planning a real-time crime center or command center.
From initial planning through final delivery, Fountainhead Control Rooms coordinated with the Dunwoody team to align the room’s design with the department’s operational requirements.
